SERVICES
WJA Design Collaborative provided comprehensive Programming, Site Planning, Space Planning and Schematic Design Services for this new Aquatic Center. The facility is to be used for water survival training exercises. The culminating report will be used for budget planning and funding requests. The project is currently on course to be procured with a design-build methodology.
Work included preparation, distribution, and consolidation of programming surveys, that built a consensus for user requirements, for the future design and construction of the facility. A multi-day design charrette was conducted, allowing initial concepts to be cultivated and vetted directly with the project's stakeholders. Conceptual site and floor plan alternatives were developed to explore options for siting, massing, spatial organization and building materials. The planning charrette report contains a comprehensive description of the client's vision for this facility and identifies the known project opportunities and constraints.
The new Aquatics Center will be a one-story, 78,845 SF facility. The primary function of the building will be to provide a multitude of water survival training environments for both ejection and non-ejection aircraft. The building will contain a 50m pool and a 25m pool. The pools will have a variety of environmental control systems, training equipment, and support spaces necessary to support aircraft survival training including dunk, hoist, drag and parachute canopy descent capabilities. It will house all training, classroom, administrative and support functions for the water survival training program.
The project also includes four separate locker rooms for male and female instructors and students; equipment laundry room; administrative space; semi-private and private offices; conference room; two classrooms; gear display room; separate instructor and student break rooms; and rooms for drying, storing, and repairing gear and equipment.
